Died on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at home in Victoria, British Columbia, with his family by his side. He was a native Victorian, born on January 6, 1931. Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Lois (nee Egan); children, Janice and Klaus Vogel, Robin Heppell and Cindy Miklic, Patrice and Fred Patterson; grandchildren, Lorenz, Victoria, Haleigh, Troy and Faith. Predeceased by his brother, Mike and his wife Mary Heppell and his sister, Mary and her husband Clarence Tayler. Dear brother-in-law of Paul and Lynne Egan, Dwight (deceased) and Joanne Egan, Deborah and Hal Brook. Tom will be fondly remembered by his many relatives in Victoria, Ontario and England. He will also be missed by his many close friends and former students. Tom was a teacher in Greater Victoria for 25 years and continued to teach (and learn) even up to his final days. Tom will be especially remembered for his love of his dogs, but above all – for his love of his family.
Funeral service was held at McCall Bros. Floral Chapel, Victoria.
Interment at Royal Oak Burial Park.
The family will receive their friends at the Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen Street S. (Hwy. 50), Bolton (905-857-2213) Saturday morning, April 30 from 10:30 o’clock until time of memorial service in the chapel at 11 o’clock.
A reception will follow at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tom’s name to the Greater Victoria Retired Teachers Scholarship Foundation, c/o Brian Tetlow, 81 High Street, Victoria, British Columbia V8Z 5C8 or the charity of your choice.
