Helen Louise Goodfellow of Bolton died peacefully at Knollcrest Lodge, Milverton, on Thursday, February 9, 2023, in her 86th year, loving wife for 58 years of the late Roy Goodfellow (2016).   Proud mother of Brenda and her husband Earle Mayes, Listowel; Kevin Goodfellow, Fergus; Donna and her husband Don Scott, Oxford Mills; Scott and his wife Frances Goodfellow, Bolton.  Cherished grandmother of Lee (Stephanie), Thomas (Tori), and Ryan (Caitlyn Kolb) Mayes; Kaitlyn, Brooke, and Erika (Rob Boyes) Goodfellow; Laura, Nicole, and Joseph Scott; Brandon and Hailey Goodfellow.  Loving daughter of the late Joseph and Clara Parr.   Dear sister of the late Samuel Parr, Marie Fines, and Alex Parr.  Survived by Gordon, Leona, and Marybelle Goodfellow.  Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.

Helen graduated Teachers College in Weston, and began her career at Bolton Public School, until she started her family.  When the kids were older, she supplied at Macville and Ellwood Public Schools.  When she and dad married, he started up the Roy Goodfellow Fuels  (Esso) business and she was the bookkeeper, with the office at the house.  In the 70’s the office was moved to a portable at the yard on Ellwood Drive, getting the business out of the home.  Shortly thereafter, the computer arrived and the business launched into a new era.  Mom learned to use the computer with tremendous success until they sold the business in 1985 to Chalmers Fuels.  With time on their hands, the opportunity to be the custodians of the Canada Packers Quilt Collection fell in their laps, and provided the opportunity to travel across the small towns of Ontario.  Mom also started to volunteer at the Caledon Community Services when they were upstairs at the Caledon East Fire Hall and then  it grew so much, they moved to their current location in downtown Bolton.  Mom was instrumental in launching the volunteer driver program and coordinating rides for those in need.  Her knowledge of all of the back roads, concession numbers, peoples names made her the right fit for the job.  She continued to work at CCS for 19 years, acquiring the handi-cap transit vans (Blue Bus program), and government grants.  She retired in 2006 with an extensive resume of achievements to her name.

The family would also like to send a huge thanks to the wonderful staff of Knollcrest Lodge for their compassionate care to Mom during her stay.

The family will receive their friends at the Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen Street S. (Hwy. 50), Bolton (905-857-2213) Thursday afternoon 2 – 4 and evening 6 – 8 o’clock and on Friday morning, February 17 from 10 o’clock until time of funeral service in the chapel at 11 o’clock.

Interment at a later date in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Bolton.

If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Caledon Seniors’ Centre (caledonseniors.ca) or Knollcrest Lodge Garden Project (knollcrestlodge/donate).

Condolences for the family may be offered at www.EganFuneralHome.com

Goodfellow family, my deepest condolences on the loss of an absolutely exceptional woman. I joined the CCS team shortly before Helen’s departure but even so, I had lots of time to know her, work with her and respect her deeply. Her contributions and strength continue to be talked about in our organization to this day. She was kind, resolute, funny and fun, serious and determined, compassionate and full of heart and soul for everyone. She taught us all a thing or two about service to community, we have missed her for years and always enjoyed her occasional visits and phone calls. I expect you have trillions of memories of a mom and grandmom that cared for all of you like no other. She did the same for CCS throughout her tenure. Rest in peace dear Helen Goodfellow, you’ve certainly made your mark in Caledon through your work that supported so many.

Condolence from Susan Adams on February 10th, 2023 1:37 pm

Sincere condolences are sent to you all. Helen was such a lovely lady, I have many great memories of her & your dad with my parents, back in the oil & furnace business times together, also getting together on weekends for games of eucre when not working, I can remember my parents coming home laughing at all the fun they had! Helen can now be at rest with Roy, & they meet up with my parents once again for another game! Even the old hockey jerseys Goodfellow/Clarkson makes me smile when I think of those days growing up…may she Rest In Peace, & may you & your family’s all be at peace also.

Condolence from Deborah Malevris on February 10th, 2023 2:41 pm

❤️ Helen

Helen was an innovator! Back in the 80’s with a used wheelchair van and few drivers (in their own cars) residents in need, were suddenly mobile and independent. Helen nurtured and networked to create a model transportation system that delivered freedom to those going to a medical appointment, critical dialysis or a senior’s shopping trip.

Thank you Helen for your tireless work to improve the quality of life for so many. You have left Caledon a much better place!

Our deepest condolences to all at this difficult time. Helen was a wonderful lady and we both had the privilege of having her in our lives as our teacher and then later in life she would meet us for coffee in the morning every week before having her hair appointment. We always looked forward to having a chat with her. She always said we where the couple that she had taught and now married. We will miss her. Scott always kept us informed as her health declined. Our thoughts and prayer are with you all. Keep her memories close and she will be with you always.

Condolence from Cat Graydon on February 12th, 2023 6:31 pm

We have many good memories of Helen, Roy, & their families. Helen was a very active volunteer for many community organizations in Bolton & Caledon. In fact she always seemed to be here, there & everywhere. She was an active member of her church Caven Presbyterian & held a number of important positions there. For a number of years, she & Phyllis were travelling bridge partners playing at various places in the local area. Her children & ours went to the same schools. We watched them growing up in Caven. Helen always had strong opinions, but when she stated them to you she usually had a little chuckle as if to reassure you that they were impersonal & you were still her friend. A genuinely kind & caring person, we will miss her greatly. Our sincere condolences to the Goodfellow family. – Ken, Phyllis, Catherine & Sheila Graydon

As a former resident of Bolton for 25 years I recognize this name. Although I didn’t know Helen her reputation precedes her. So many accomplishments and good deeds. I am truly amazed by her. As I used to tell my patients in Huron county when I first moved up here, you are a somebody when you have a bridge or a road named after you. And so Helen you have earned that honour as well. A life well lived and a true giver to society, community and family. My sincere condolences to the extended family.
