  – A Century of Inspiration –

Heinz entered this world 100 years ago in Germany on March 12th, the same day as his first love and wife, Christiane–Christel.  Together they welcomed, raised and inspired two sons, Ralph and Volker, their respective spouses, four grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a great, great grandchild.    Heinz inspired all who knew him, had a fierce determination, passion for life, a touch of “gluck” and, after being widowed, discovered love once again with Margot.

Commemorating his 100th birthday on March 12th at his favourite restaurant, The Open Cork, Heinz and Margot were surrounded by family, friends and dignitaries for an afternoon of celebration, sharing stories and accolades.  Most recently, through sheer determination, family support and the caring staff at the Mississauga Hospital, Heinz recovered from a broken hip to find his way back home to Margot—where he wanted to be.  On May 10th, after watching the Leaf’s win, he passed away quietly with Margot at his side.

Warm and humble, he took a genuine interest in everyone he met.  A lifetime of never giving up and contributing to the very core of all things good, Heinz tirelessly believed in family, a strong work ethic—retiring at 92 years young—finding beauty and enjoyment in both the simplest things—from dancing and conversation to gardening and time with family—and those things full of adventure—from skiing the Alps and Rockies to travelling and beginning new ventures.  He was a century of inspiration and class—from “start to finish”.

We love you, miss you and will continue to be inspired by you,

Margot; Ralph & Barb; Volker & Linda; Jennifer, Justin and Aleasha;

Matthew, Kailey, Sam, Leah and Jake; Nicole, Pat, Kate-Lynn, Riley, Tyler and Elijah;

Jeremy and Carole; Diana, Perry, Christopher, Rhanda and David.

Condolence from Roch and Nancy Paterson on May 20th, 2023 12:31 pm

We remember Heinz so fondly from the days when we were cottage neighbours on Pigeon Lake. He was friendly and kind and always had a twinkle in his eyes. He would entertain us with his stories of his adventures. We remember he bought himself a brand new Cadillac for his 80th birthday. His zest for life definitely was an inspiration. Our son Chris declared that Heinz was his hero! Things were never really the same at the cottage after Margot sold and new neighbours moved in. We always missed them. We were honoured to be included in the celebration of Heinz’ 90th birthday and had little doubt that he would live to see his 100th. We send our sincere condolences to Margot and to all of Heinz’ family.
