Condolence from Diane Allengame on November 22nd, 2019 9:56 am

Doris was a lifetime friend of the Allengame family, and a connection we shared to things and places of the past. But more than that, she showed everyone how to grow older with spunk and positivity. She was blessed with a mind as sharp as a tack – prepared my Mom’s income tax return until just a few years ago. Doris – you will be missed! Diane Allengame & Anne Allengame

We always enjoyed our conversations with Doris when we visited your home in Bolton. She had a great memory and colourful stories. She was blessed to have you so close but yet able to maintain her independence in her senior years. Love from Singapore

Doris’s and my paths crossed a few times over the years, and although there were often long gaps between those encounters, her warmth, grace and wit always made me feel like I was catching up with an old friend. My sincere condolences to her family.

Robert and Karen: Condolences to the loss of your mother. My memories of the Porter family in Bolton go back to the days when you folks and your parents lived in the white bungalow set back from the highway, on the Henderson farm.Your mother always said hello on my visits to town.

Doris, rest in peace.

Condolence from Janice McClelland on November 22nd, 2019 8:05 pm

My sincerest condolences to Robert, Karen and families and extended family – my Mother, Emma McClelland (nee Deck) was a friend of Doris’s while they were both serving in the Canadian Womens Army Core during World War II. Despite the fact that my Mom settled in Sault Ste Marie and Doris returned to Bolton, they kept in touch over 68 years (!) until my Mom passed away in Nov 2017. Doris was a treasure – from be-friending me when I came to southern Ontario to attend university to many years later sharing her accounts of time in the Canadian army with my Mom. Such a loss but we were blessed to her in this corner of Ontario. -Janice McClelland.

Condolence from Graydon McArthur on November 22nd, 2019 9:03 pm

Hi Bob and Karen,

My sincerest condolences on the passing of your mom. I remember her as a lovely lady in years past. It is good to take consolation in knowing she is at home and in peace. I’m up north on Tuesday and can’t attend the service, but I will take a moment from my day at 10 am and have a moment of silence and say a prayer for you and your families and think of you in this time of sorrow. Take care good friends. I know it has been awhile, but I’m just an email away.

Condolence from Sandy Forester on November 23rd, 2019 7:56 am

She was indeed an icon in her hometown of Bolton, involved in so many aspects of life in her community. I knew Doris from the Albion-Bolton Historical Society, and a group called “Molly and Friends”. She lived a long and purposeful life, and will be greatly missed by all.

Condolence from Johanne on November 23rd, 2019 12:02 pm

I am with you in mind and spirit during this difficult time. Doris will be missed. Wishing you peaceful moments all together.

Condolence from Carolyne Wedgbury on November 23rd, 2019 2:11 pm

There was never a dull moment when Doris was around. I loved to listen to her informative stories of local Bolton history made so vivid by her unique raconteur talent. Doris loved her little town and the people in it. She was the best assistant my husband his staff could ever ask for. She will be sorely missed and never replaced.

Condolence from Ken and Christina Graham on November 24th, 2019 10:33 am

Doris was the kind of lady that makes our community and our country what it is. She served in World War ll and after seeing her energy and wit well into her nineties, the enemy is lucky that she was not sent into the front lines of battle. At meetings of the historical society, questions about the past were settled quickly with Doris announcing what really happened because she was there. A good leader shows empathy and Doris volunteered and led many caring pursuits. Her passing is a great loss to Bolton, the place she loved, and I like to think Gordon is building a new place for them to live.

Condolence from Kate and Ruth Whitehead on November 24th, 2019 12:27 pm

So sorry to hear of Doris’s passing. It sort of feels like part of the town went with her. I remember she was one of the recurring characters in many of my Grandma Mildred’s stories and so she was pretty much a legend in my mind. She did a lot for Bolton and will surely be missed. Mom and I send our condolences to the family and all of our best wishes.

Condolence from Valerie Simpson-Francis on November 25th, 2019 7:57 am

Doris will always hold a very special place in the hearts of the Simpson family. Mum and Doris became lifelong friends since working together at Bull, Wedgbury, Christian & Cotnam. She was a wonderful, strong and true friend throughout the years. We will miss her stories, her humour and her energy. We will never forget her devotion to Mum when she became ill. Every Friday Dad put the kettle on because he knew Doris would come for tea and a visit with Mum. He would often say those visits were the highlight of the week! We will treasure that forever. You were one in a million. Our deepest sympathy to your loved ones.

The Simpson Family,
Sheila, Jacky, Valerie, Geoff and their families

Sincere condolences to you all. Although I didn’t know Doris very well she was someone whom I admired and really liked. I always enjoyed her hugs and chats whenever we connected at Christ Church in Bolton. Amazingly she always remembered the names of my grandchildren and also that Greg (my son) & I thought that her Gordon sounded a lot like my husband. My sympathies to you all.

Karen and Robert,

We were so sorry to hear of Doris’s passing. She would always keep us laughing with her stories of her clients as we worked all hours at BWCC at tax time. When we moved to Cobourg we always looked forward to her news of Bolton, and her full and busy life. She will be missed.
