If you were a horse, a dog, a cat, a monkey, a parrot, a raccoon or a goat (Donna had them all), you would know and understand Donna. If you were a person, maybe not so much. She was kind, gentle and steady with an inner strength not fully realized until she faced a tragic terminal diagnosis. Her too soon departure on March 19th at only 64 has left us all heartbroken. Surpassing her love of animals was her love for her two sons Kyle (Robin) and Dylan and her two gorgeous grandsons Max and Kade. Donna said the little ones would not remember her, but Kyle and Robin won’t let that happen. She has also left her siblings Sue (Ian), Brian (Arlene) and Julie (Graham), her sons’ father Tim, many nephews and nieces, in-laws Ron, Carol and Teresa and many friends, Andrea being the longest. Donna was the consummate Boy Mom as she cheered them on at their dirt bike races. But then as a teenager it was not unusual to find her under the hood if not under her Dodge Charger. Donna worked at the Mississauga Animal Services for many years before and after running her own horse boarding stable. She possessed the knowledge of a veterinarian. If heaven is like it is supposed to be our beautiful Donna is cantering along on her beloved Taz and together, they search out all her departed pets. Oh and of course her parents Norma and David Lacey and young Tylee and Sierra – but animals first because Donna was Donna. If we had to pick a song it would be “I did it my way”. To our much-loved Mother, Nana, Sister and Friend – We love you!

Honouring Donna’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Condolences for the family may be offered at www.EganFuneralHome.com

As a volunteer at the animal shelter I always had lovely and informative conversations with Donna. She was such a nice lady with a sharp funny sense of humour that always left me laughing. She could brighten anyones day. I send her family my deepest condolences. May your memories of her bring you comfort. And I am sure there were many furry friends waiting for her at the end of the rainbow bridge.

Condolence from Jo-Anne Ward on March 31st, 2023 7:56 pm

I met Donna about 14 yrs ago when she and Alison and I had our horses at the same place. It didn’t take long for me to realize just how caring and dedicated Donna truly was. Eventually, we all left that farm but there was a cat which had been left behind there. Long story short, is that Donna stopped by that barn every nite to feed the cat after work on her way home to Caledon East. One day she called me saying, can you please take her, this last one. So I did and she lived another 8yrs after that.

I also remember how sad, but brave Donna was after losing Taz.
Then later in time, she listened to my grief over the phone when I lost
my heart horse.
Of course, she understood.

My condolences to all of her family.
RIP Donna

Dear Donna,

I am so heartbroken and lost. I miss you each and everyday. Knowing and working with you for 26 years has been an honour. You have to be the funniest person I have ever met. We miss you so deeply here at Mississauga Animal Services.
I will never forget when we were cleaning the animals here and the smell was so bad that you said “Oh man, this smell can knock the buzzards off a shit wagon…lol” There was never a time that you didn’t have us all in stitches. You have been like a mom to me for the 26 years and I want to thank you for coming in my life. My life is so much greater, just you being a part of it. I will hold on to all of our laughs and all of our beautiful memories until we meet again. My heartfelt condolences goes out to all her immediate family and friends. Love you and will always hold you dear to my heart. R.I.P work mom!
