Nick, Kori and Casie,
Uncle Tony and I are just so so sad about poor Donna. Such a happy person, and full of life. One has to wonder how and why things like this happen Our thoughts are with you always.

Condolence from Lorella on November 6th, 2011 5:13 pm

I remember driving past the farm, and I would, occasionally, see Donna, on the lawn mower, in front of her home, or her parents home. I`d quickly tap my horn, and wave out to her, from my drivers side window. Donna would raise her arm and quickly wave back at me as I drove by.
That 5 second encounter always made me smile.
I tap my horn to you, one final time.

You will be greatly missed.
Lorella

Condolence from Cathi Begley on November 7th, 2011 12:06 pm

Donna was one of the first people I met on the ice here in Caledon a few years ago, at Monday morning hockey. She was obviously an incredibly skilled player, while I was not. She played against me just strongly enough to allow me to improve, giving me time to try a move. Always the passer, she was a great teacher in kindness, sportsmanship, team play and always a very positive attitude both on and off the ice. It was a shock to hear when she became sick and now an even greater shock to hear of the outcome. My thoughts and prayers are with her family. She was a great example of how to live!!

Condolence from Stacey Mortimer on November 7th, 2011 1:08 pm

Nick and The Girls, Mr. and Mrs. Kolb, Mr. and Mrs. DeBoer – and family,

I will remember Donna as an athlete, a farmer, a wife, a mom. A friend. She was a human being that did good in this world every day. Without fail she took up her space in it and she did an extraordinary job showing us all how to be a loving, kind, humanitarian – at the most basic level – in the home, with her friends and family and in her community. There will be a void – but it will not be left empty for long – I don’t think Donna would tolerate that – her family, her girls – I am sure have already begun to grab hold and continue with her legacy.

My thoughts and prayers are with you guys.

Best,
Stacey

Condolence from Debbie Davis on November 7th, 2011 1:41 pm

To Nick, Kori, Casie and the Kolb Family:
There is a hole in my heart since I heard about Donna’s passing. I am glad that her battle is over but sad that it ended so tragically. I am honored to have had Donna as a friend for many years. I remember the profound pride I felt when she asked me if she could wear my wedding dress to marry you, Nick, and how beautiful she made it look. I was always so excited to see Donna in our travels; our lives did not intertwine as much in the last few years as we both were busy with our families, but when we did cross paths, it was like time stood still for us. I am very happy that I got to spend some time with Donna over the past few months. Her strength and love for her family put me more in awe of her than I was before. My thoughts are with Nick, the girls and Donna’s family as they deal with this profound loss. We have lost a great person whose absence will be felt by many. Godspeed my friend.

Danny, who loved a sleep in (as we all do) would call home to see if he could stay over and when he got off the phone he would have a big smile on his face and he would tell us;” Donna said she would do the chores for me” Oh how he loved his sister, Our thoughts and prayers are with you Dan. To Pat and Fred, our hearts go out to you in this time of sorrow. May your faith bring you comfort and may you find peace in your memories. Thinking of you with saddened hearts Gwen & John Howard

We are very honoured to have shared your open house with you all and to have captured those family photos in front of the farm that Donna was so proud of.

Condolence from Caroline Kirkpatrick on November 8th, 2011 11:50 am

I had the great pleasure of meeting Donna 14 years ago or so, when she and a few others created the Caledon Women’s Hockey League. She was much much more than a very skilled athlete. As so many others of commented, she epitomized sportsmanship (kind, gracious, positive, giving). She live life in the same manner. I am glad I told her such at the end of last (hockey) season. Her memory will remain alive in those whose lives she touched. Number 9 will be greatly missed. My heartfeld condolences to her family.

Donna you will be missed!
I was so so lucky to be able to be on the ice with Donna and even on her line as a teammate!
She helped me get my first goal!! Donna said to me “Sherry go into the middle and I will pass you the puck”. Donna was a character in the dressing room – talk, talk, talk!!!
Even playing baseball with Donna she was like a deer out in the field – moved so quickly – she was unbelievable!

My thoughts and prayers are with Nick, Kori and Casie and family.

Dear Nick, Kori, Casie and the deBoer and Kolb families We extend our sincere condolences to you at the loss of a dear wife and devouted mother. Donna welcomed us into her home at the annual euchre party to enjoy her hospitality and mingle with our daughters new family. We enjoyed her vibrant personality, her jokes and her laughter. This summer I enjoyed her company on Daves back deck and quickly realized that this little gal knew more about farming than anyone I had met. Donna’s love of family, of sports and of life was obvious in everything she did.

In Time Of Loss

Lonely is the home without you,
Life is not the same;
All the world would be like heaven,
If we could have you back again.

A light is from our household gone,
A voice we loved is still,
A place is vacant in our home,
That never can be filled.

May the God of Love and Mercy,
Care our loved one who is gone,
And bless with consolation,
Those left ot carry on.

The happy hours we once enjoyed,
How sweet their memory still,
But death has left a vacant place,
This world can never fill.

How dearly we loved you,
And prayed you might live,
But Jesus just beckoned,
And we had to give.

God gave us strength to bear it,
And courage to fight the blow,
What it has meant to lose you,
God alone will ever know.
-Author Unknown

God bless all of you in your time of need! We are so sorry for your loss!

My condolences to all of you who loved Donna, she was a wonderful person.
I played my first year of hockey with Donna, she was always so positive and encouraging. Donna was so graceful on the ice, she even managed to make falling look good, not that that happened often. The league will not be the same without Donna and her smile which followed her both on and off the ice.
May you find comfort in your many friends and family, and the sweet memories you share.

Leigh Soulis

Condolence from Joe Rogers and The Rogers Family on November 10th, 2011 1:38 am

I was deeply saddened to hear the news of Donna’s passing. It’s at times like this when you question how life makes sense, when someone so fit and vital as Donna can be taken so young. I remember Donna as someone who once committed to a task or cause, poured her heart and soul into it. She had an incredible work ethic, no doubt fostered on the Kolb family farm. Like her brothers, she had a quiet confidence, and behind that twinkle in her eye was a great sense of humour and an incredible zest for life. My condolences to the Kolb and De Boer families. Although you will always miss Donna, in the days to come you can take comfort in knowing that you have enough fond memories to last a lifetime.

Condolence from Gladys Fieldhouse and Family on November 11th, 2011 3:33 pm

My sincerest condolences Nick, Kori and Casie,
Fred, Pat and families.
I know how your heart must be aching and no, you are not having a Heart Attack, sure seems like it. You can question all you want, it seems like the answer is there but there is still the why, why. I am glad I talked to Donna at the Fair and hoped, as you all did, that she would be around much longer. God had other plans, you would not have wanted her suffering.
Bruce got want he wanted, to die farming and not suffer, we didn’t get what we wanted–may seem selfish, but we have the right.
I know that Donna and you have given the girls strength to step up to the plate, evident in appearing at the Classic at the RWF.
Strength in the days ahead.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the whole family.

Dear Pat & Fred Kolb,
There’s so much that should be said at this time, but no words seem adequate.
Just wanting you to know you’re being thought about and cared about and praying that you find comfort in knowing that your wonderful daughter and all she means to you both will remain in your hearts forever. This world was a better place because we were blessed to know her.
God bless you

Condolence from Susna Paterson (Weeks) on January 19th, 2012 7:20 am

Dear Fred Pat and family
I am so sorry for your loss. Donna life was filled with giving, what a wonderful legacy for Kori and Casie. Years ago after the loss of my grandfather my grandmother told Mum the thought that got her through the dark was” Be there for the children”. These words have been our family guide.
Through loss and challenges to walk on; to show how to live the best life possible no matter what it offers you. This obviously was Donna’s way.
Our thoughts are with you.

Condolence from Andrew Pape-Salmon on November 17th, 2012 2:04 am

To Donna’s family members and friends,

I would like to extend my thoughts at this difficult time of the first anniversary of the tragic loss of Donna. The passage of time will not diminish the fond memories and love for my Cousin Donna.

Donna was a role model for me (and the whole family) on her commitment to fitness and athletics, strong family values and work ethic, things I really value today from the examples she provided over the years.

Donna and I grew up in separate parts of the country (I was in the Prairies), but that didn’t prevent us from developing a very meaningful relationship. Through our youth, I would visit her annually in Ontario and we would always pick-up where we left off to connect in a jovial and warm manner.

I was recently going through photos from the previous 35 years and came across several photos of Donna visiting us while we were living in Whitehorse, Yukon in the 70s; and those from my visits to Ontario through the 80s. She was always wearing a new hat!

The urban cousin I was, she taught me how to milk a cow, drive a tractor and distribute feed. Years later, I would apply some of those skills working on a dairy farm in Henryville, Quebec with Canada World Youth (a program that my Cousin, and Donna’s brother David told me about).

When I think about a quiet conversation in her living room a few years ago, I am reminded of her thoughtful disposition and respect for others, the mentoring of her daughters Kori and Casie, her mastery of what she worked on and her love of sport. The memories warm my heart!

All my love,
Andrew Pape-Salmon
