With deep sadness we announce the sudden death of David Heggie, age 75, at his home in Bolton. Loving father of Alison Row (David) and Anna Roch (Neil). Cherished grandfather, fishing mentor, tireless ping pong, croquet, and board game companion of Katherine, Sullivan, Thomas, Graeme, Liam and Jessica. Former husband, life-long friend, loving partner of Susan Gowans. Brother of Jane (George), Rosemary (George) and Andrew.  Uncle to Sarah, Rachel, Amy and Ian.

David was one-of-a-kind: unconventional, too smart for his own good, and side-splittingly funny. He loved life and was drawn towards searching for answers to its mysteries and deeper questions. A poet, avid reader, Scrabble expert, tea connoisseur, canoeist, nature lover, horse-racing enthusiast and past motorcycle aficionado, David’s interests were wide and varied. He approached life with a lively, generous and helpful spirit. He was a great listener and conversationalist, and a loyal friend. He could listen intently to others and find the perfect words of wisdom, kindness, and of course, trademark humour, to lighten or clarify any situation.

His wisdom, love and kindness will be greatly missed and always remembered.

If desired, donations may be made in David’s memory to the Muskoka Conservancy or the Nature Conservancy of Canada.

About David

When I was a free bird, David just let me be free and didn’t judge.

When I was dark, he would appear at my back porch at 3214 Yonge and keep me company.

and Yes, we would go to Woodbine together – sometimes just to hold each other’s hand.

A truly beloved soul in my life. It has always torn me apart that he lost Anthia – I know it broke him.

One of our group;. I’m in heavy tears even writing this

Love Mark

Condolences to David’s family. I did not know him well, but it was clear that he was a very special person and one of my Mom’s favourite cousins.
