In Loving Memory of David Brand

June 15, 1944 – March 9, 2018

David was a hardworking and loving father and grandfather to 4 boys, 8 grandchildren and to his partner Alexandra Hatfield.

He was never a man of emotional words but rather expressed himself with his actions, dependability and loyalty.

He passed away the morning of March 9th, 2018 at Southlake Regional Health Care Centre, Newmarket. A memorial service will be held this Thursday, March 15th from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at The Country Club, 20 Lloyd Street, Woodbridge. If desired, memorial donations may be made to Humber Valley Trail Association ~ Kleinburg Chapter (www.hvhta.ca).

We love you so much, dad, and you will be missed and cherished by your family, friends and community.

Love Alex, Austen, Clay, Callum, Ewan and family.

Condolences for the family of “David Brand”

Condolence from Sandy Brand on March 13th, 2018 11:51 am

I met Dave when we were in our teens and we grew up together. We shared our four amazing sons together, emigrating from Scotland to London, then Toronto. He was a good man, dependable, knowledgeable, hard working and a good father. He will be missed. My condolences to Alex, his partner, and to all of us who knew and loved him. Sandy

David embraced Family by Adoption in much the same way as he did his own, that is, he was always ready to help and advise. I can’t list the number of times he was there for me and mine. And not only for my immediate family, but also for those from our mother’s family who transitioned from Iraq to this neck-of-the-woods.
His interest was immediately sparked by a new question. As you know, he had to discover, and share, the answer. His interests were vast and far-ranging. And not just theoretical: how many other professional accountants are so hands-on with practical challenges as was David? And how many individuals could make the changes he did after the first warning of heart trouble? He must have given himself extra time on this earth.
Give up smoking? – Yes.
Lose weight? – Yes.
Change diet ?– Yes.
Avoid caffeine? – Yes.
Walk regularly? – Yes.
Not only join a Fitness Club, but use it! – Yes.
As we mourn, we also celebrate – a life well lived.

Condolence from Lorinda Parkes Bourn on March 16th, 2018 2:13 pm

David, what a steadfast friend you have been to our family, here in Texas and in Kleinburg on our many visits!

More than ten years ago Alex and David swung by our little home on Bedford Court (in Texas) on one of their legendary road trips. We went to Fort Worth’s Japanese gardens with our two preschool aged boys. What a thrill it was for the kids to take a quarter, drop and twist, and out came fish food that caused the most delightful chaos of Koi in a feeding frenzy. David, having had four boys himself, has given us perspective to appreciate the wonder of parenthood, endure the chaos, and know we’ll come through it all in one piece!

Around the kitchen table in Kleinburg, David’s sharp mind and knowledge of history and current affairs has been a delight to me and my husband Kent. As an American (with the heart of a Canadian!), Kent loves to gain the British and Canadian perspective on things old and new, and David was always happy to share.

As Alex’s neice, and Bea’s daughter, living so far away it brought me great comfort that our family count on David’s willingness to fix or advise, and help in any way.

We love you David, and send thoughts of comfort to you all with his passing.

Lorinda Bourn
