Christa

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Christa Guschewski on Tuesday, December 7th, 2010 in her 85th year, beloved wife of Ewald. Loving mother of Roland, Barbara, Christina and Norman. Dear grandmother of Stephan, Patrick, Emma and Chloe. Fondly remembered by her brother Manfred, brother-in-law Max, sister-in-law Gertraud and her many nieces and nephews. Christa’s vision and leadership skills were apparent in all aspects of her life. After a successful teaching career, she founded the Friedrich Schiller Schule in 1972 and was Principal until her death. In January 1999, she received the Bundesverdienstkreuz (federal cross of merit) for her lifetime achievements in furthering the German language and culture. She was also highly regarded world wide for developing her purebred German breeding line of Dachshunds and owned and operated the Adler Horst Kennel since 1955. Her love and expertise will be missed by all who knew her. A memorial service will be held in Martin Luther Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2379 Lake Shore Blvd West, Toronto, Ontario on Saturday, December 18 at 2 o’clock. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Friedrich Schiller Schule, 7073 Castlederg Road, Caledon, Ontario L7C 0P7. Arrangements by Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen Street S., Bolton (905-857-2213). Condolences for the family may be offered at www.EganFuneralHome.com

Heartfelt sympathies and sincerest condolences to everyone. Mrs. Christa Guschewski was one of those truly great human beings. Her legendary drive, dedication, and concern for all those around her gave her that distinguished brand of leadership, rarely encountered, which she exercised with sage wisdom, clear forsight and profound empathy in order to teach the German language and culture in the way that she innately knew was best. Fond memories of great language classes, and an honour to have been taught by someone so very special. My thoughts and prayers with you all. So many owe her so much. So many will miss her.
