Condolence from Laurie May on November 25th, 2010 9:14 pm

I am very sad to hear about Careylee.
I’ve had the pleasure of teaching Megan and getting to know this wonderful family. Megan was always strong and brave and so supportive of her Mom…even shaving her own hair so that her Mom would not have to be “the only one that was bald”. Megan organized cards, gifts, fund-raisers etc. One particular bake sale included Megan and several of her class-mates dressed in pink aprons. Hundreds of cookies, muffins and brownies sold out in a record 20 minutes. All of Megan’s endeavours helped us all to feel positive and hopeful.
I will never forget the day that Careylee came into my classroom to talk to my students about Cancer and her personal experience with this disease. She led an honest and candid discussion and helped the children to realize that it was O.K. to ask questions and share their fears with her. When one of the children asked if she would take her wig off, she gladly obliged. The children responded to her shaven head with a hushed respect. That was a day that they will never forget….and we will never forget Careylee.

I only knew Careylee for a brief time of my preceptorship at the Headwaters hospital. She was one nurse who inspired me during my experience. She welcomed me onto the team with open arms and was always willing to share her knowledge with me. She was a fun person to be around and I remember her smile, it would light up a room. I often thought to myself thats a type of nurse who I would like to become, a great role model.

Though I only knew her for a short period she has touched my heart and will remain there with the rest of my memories of Headwaters. God bless

Although I never met Careylee, I and most of my fellow employees at MC, felt we knew her personnally and she was part of our big family.

I can remember Tom telling us, almost daily, about her last pregnancy and birth of their last girl. We all waited with anticipation along with Tom for her birth.

He would often bring in pictures of her and the rest of the family.

My sympathy goes out to your entire family, especially your father Sandy and your mother. I know you will receive a lot of help and support from your friends and family, that includes your MC family.

Dear Dad, Megan and big sister, little sister,

Our entire class had a good cry when we heard the news. We hope that the cards we made helped make everyone feel better. We decided to go to the forest on Thursday. Everyone wanted a quiet time to think about your mother, our mothers, our families and how sometimes life doesn’t seem fair. After our quiet time of listening to the birds and the wind and feeling the icy rain on our faces, we gathered in a circle and prayed. You didn’t have a mother for a very long time but you certainly had a special mom. She will live on in the positive spirit of her three amazing daughters, loving husband and family.

Dear Vanderkolk Family,

My sympathies and condolences are with your family at this time. I read a wonderful poem and would like to send it to you.

When those we love go away, they never really leave us;
they are with us now, wherever we are.
Those whom we have cherished, live on forever,
for love wraps itself around the heart.
Although it’s difficult now,
someday beyond our tears and all the world’s wrongs;
beyond the clouds and all that we can see and touch,
we shall all understand.

Even though we never met, my heart goes out to all of you.

Jenny Changizian

Condolence from Anabel, Malcolm and Todd Doige on November 28th, 2010 3:28 pm

We are very sorry to learn of your family’s loss. Our son, Malcolm, is in grade 3 at Primrose, and I, Anabel Doige, volunteered and worked at Primrose for 3 years. During 2009/10, I had the honour of seeing this family rally around their mother. In particular, I was touched by Brave Megan, who shaved her head to walk with her mother through her chemo — what tremendous spirit they all have! Please, tell Megan in particular, that Mrs. Doige is thinking of her and sending her lots of love. I too lost my mother at about the same age — my heart is with her. Megan can know that she stood by her mother when she needed her, and that her mother’s spirit will always be with her.
Love, Mrs. D. and Family

Condolence from Connie Swindlehurst on November 28th, 2010 8:05 pm

They say people come in to your life for a reason, Careylee was one of them. I met her when my Dad was in the ICU unit. He would ask if the nurse with the pretty smile was there. Her smile would light up the room and make everyone feel better just looking at her. She was always smiling, happy, caring and always took the time to talk to patients and listen to them. She definitely chose the right profession….as a nurse, you couldn’t get one any better. She will be missed terribly by all those who had the privilege to work with her. Your memories of her will carry you through this. She was one awesome lady and will be sadly missed by all. My deepest sympathies go to Tom, the girls and the families.

Tom and kids.

We are saddened by the loss of Carylee and want you to know that she will be missed by all who knew her. We know that Kathy will have a hard time finding such a good friend as Carylee has been.
When Carylee and Kathy came to visit us we took a few pictures and have them on our digital picture frame, we see the two of them together almost everyday, we will never forget her and great time we had when she was here. Our prayers will be with you and your children and we know that Heavenly Father will provide the comfort that you need in the coming days and weeks.

Thankyou for all the fun times you gave me. I loved the big breakfasts you made for us when we stayed at your house. Bailey I really loved the day that we were able to spend shopping together and having lunch with both our moms. She was a great friend to our whole family.

Condolence from Penny Start on November 29th, 2010 12:12 am

I met Careylee last summer while working on E Wing. In Careylee I found a person that we would all aspire to be – she emplified kindness, honesty, intelligence, strength, a truly beautiful person and angel on earth. In true Careylee, she was the one supporting all of us as she fought cancer and I truly believed that she would win the fight. Unfortunately, God has other plans and even though her time with us was short, she left a part of herself with everyone she touched.
Tom, Bailey, Megan and Riley
My deepest sympathy to each of you. May God give you the strength during this difficult time and know that many prayers are extended to you to carry you through these days.

Condolence from Christine Korbey on November 29th, 2010 6:55 pm

Tom,
I only just heard today that Careylee died and I am so very sorry for your loss. While I could tell from the stories you told me over the last month the end was near I had no idea it was this close. I cannot imagine how you, or your girls and extended family must feel other than a sense of complete loss and focus in your lives. You gave her evert ounce of your love, support and unconditional commitment to her well being but unfortunately the disease was out of your control and outside the reach of our medical knowledge to cure. Take care my friend.

Condolence from Cheryl Morandin on December 1st, 2010 3:01 am

Hi Terri and Eleanor,
It’s me, Jewelry Girl!! I am sad to hear of your loss. I remember meeting your sister/daughter at the Jewelry counter a ways back, while she was in remission. I was fixing her watch, and she was there with her husband. You know how I can talk….well, she was so grateful to me, and I told her it is something I do all the time, no big deal. She revealed to me who she was, and I was so surprised, as I had heard of her, but never met her. She lit up when I told her how much I loved her sister and mother! She mentioned that she was out with her husband, kid free that night, and in remission. I’ll never forget her, she was so sweet, and her husband soo proud!! I hope this moment had you smile, even for a second. I am happy to have met her. God bless you and her family! Luv you, Cheryl

Condolence from Sharon Taylor on December 2nd, 2010 11:45 pm

A few years ago I had the pleasure of teaching two very special girls, Bailey and Megan, in Kindergarten. I fondly remember each girl for her affectionate personality, kindness and wit. I knew their amazing spirit came directly from their parents. Careylee was such a kind and caring mom. I really enjoyed having her come and volunteer in the class because she was always smiling, laughing and, honestly, she had the most beautiful hair (I remember telling her that her daughters were so lucky to inherit that)! I was sad to see their family move away from our school because I knew that Tom and Careylee were raising wonderful children and I would miss seeing them grow up. Girls, grow up and live like your mom and you will be amazing people.

Condolence from Amanda Turnbull (McKillop) on December 6th, 2010 9:01 pm

I heard words today that should never have to be spoken. I will cherish the memories (at the gym, her awesome hair and of course her smile) I have of Careylee from our younger years forever and wish I could see her one more time. What a beautiful family Careylee and Tom created. My thoughts go out to them at such a difficult time. Also, my deepest regrets to Eleanor and Terry who I love to chat with while at Walmart. Hope to see you soon.
