Betty Winnifred McPherson (nee Cope), age 88, passed away on August 18, 2018. She was born in Toronto, Ontario on October 29, 1929.

Betty is survived by her husband of 67 years Malcolm McPherson. She was a piano teacher for many years in Caledon East, an avid crafter (knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, and rug “hooking”); Betty enjoyed volunteering with several organizations throughout her life, including the United Church of Canada. Both she and Malcolm enjoyed time spent with their family, playing music, attending theatre productions, travelling, and their rich life in Caledon East. Betty was the proud mother of Raymond, Elaine (Kevin), Robert, Betty Ann (Nancy); Grandmother to Jesse, Kerstin, Marisa, Andrew, Ariel, Dale (Julia), Hayley (Jason), and Robin; Great-grandmother to Skyelin, Enthea, Bridget, Desmond, Autumn, and Mason. Betty was predeceased by her sister Amy, her sister-in-law Heather, and her granddaughter Robin.

It was Betty’s wish to be cremated and interred in Caledon East.

The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Headwaters Health Care Centre. Their kindness and respect will forever be remembered.

A service will be held on Friday, August 24 at 12 o’clock noon at the Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen Street S. (Hwy 50), Bolton, Ontario L7E 2C6.

Condolences for the family of “Betty Winnifred McPherson (nee Cope)”

Condolence from Fay McCrea on August 19th, 2018 1:37 pm

Dear Malcolm and your wonderful family
Betty was a very warm and loving lady. I have only known her through the Caledon East United Church and her involvement with the UCW but during the summer months, when there is no choir, I would sit in the congregation in the pew ahead of Mal and Betty and I loved hearing Betty harmonize with all the hymns. Unfortunately I think that ceased to happen even last summer but I really missed her lovely voice and her constant smiling face.
You have been a very busy lady for many years, teaching, singing, playing the piano, being a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. It is now time to Rest in Peace, Betty
God Bless you and your family

I have many fond memories of Betty, especially with the United Church Women where she was President for a few years, and pianist for many years. Betty was always willing to help whenever or wherever she could. I will always remember her many talents especially her handiwork and music. My deepest sympathy to Mal and all of the family. She loved talking about all of you as she was so proud of your accomplishments. She will be missed.

Condolence from Wendy Smith-Bilton on August 20th, 2018 8:59 am

Our family had the privilege of having Mal & Betty as our next door neighbors in Caledon East for 28 years. I was very saddened to hear of Betty’s recent passing. She was a kind, gentle soul who loved to share her stories about her family and grandchildren with me. At Christmas Betty would bring over gifts for my daughters that she lovingly made for our tree and we will think of her when these decorations hang on our tree. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mal and family at this time.

Condolence from Darlene Nelson on August 21st, 2018 9:25 am

Mal and Family,
I have wonderful memories of Mrs. McPherson as a next door neighbour and as my piano teacher for many years. As a child growing up, we had our weekly chat and time spent at the piano during lessons that I will cherish. In later years, when visiting Caledon East, I often got the chance to catch up on the latest family news. She was a woman that was very proud of her family, and delighted in telling the latest news about her children and grandchildren. I have thought of her often when I have time to play at the piano. I cannot be there for the service, but will be thinking of you all. God bless.

Condolence from Kim Publow on August 25th, 2018 2:57 pm

Dear McPherson Clan
I am very sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. I have countless memories as a kid, hanging out with Betty Ann, spending time around the pool or coming to Betty to ask for help to get the leeches off from Kovacs pond. It was a very loving and inspiring home. Betty’s patience trying to teach me how to play the piano, were to say the least amazing. A smoke in one hand and the metronome keeping beat above the keys. She always knew when i hadn’t practiced. I’ll always remember her wonderful laugh and sense of humour. Our paths crossed, once again, very recently and for that I am grateful. Love to all.
Kim ( Watson) Publow

Condolence from Terry Christian (45 Larry Street) on August 29th, 2018 11:37 pm

Dear Mal: I’m so sorry to hear about your loss. Betty was a wonderful person and a musician whose piano playing touched many lives, especially at Caledon East Public School. Being a musician yourself, you must soldier on (keep playing the clarinet). I can just imagine Betty looking down and tapping her foot to your tune. Terry Christian
