Dear Carol and family,
I was shocked and saddened to hear the sad news about Tony. I was Tony’s teacher at Ellwood Memorial P.S. where I watched him grow up. He was a fun loving kid, respectful of others. and well liked by all the students.
Back in the days when Canada had standards for fitness, you may recall the Canada Fitness tests where every student was tested on 6 events in hopes of being rewarded with a crest. I was in charge of the events and Tony was only worried about the hardest event, a 1 km endurance run, no easy feat for Tony. He asked me if he could skip the event, but I repeated the rules that you had to try your best on all 6 events. I said to Tony, ” You can walk if you get too tired. ” Tony said to me, ” I’ll have to get the lead out ” Off he went to the field to be timed for the run. He ran like he never ran before and suddenly all the students on the field started cheering Tony on until he finished exhausted but happy. I will never forget that moment as he earned a Participation Award for completing all 6 events to his very best. I was also very proud of Tony when he came back to Ellwood from Humberview to play saxaphone with his Jazz Band and the students loved him. I have always considered Tony a good friend and I will miss him. We send our condolences.
Our deepest condolences to the family as well to Shannon. Thoughts and prayers are with you.
