Wendy, Gary, Christine and family,

I am so sad to hear of your dad’s passing. I enjoyed getting to know him and being a small part of his life. He enriched my life even in the short time I knew him – I learned quite a bit about Nascar racing and tractor pull competitions!

You are all in my prayers.

Condolence from Ken Graham (former volunteer paramedic with Bolton Ambulance) on December 31st, 2010 11:12 pm

I am deeply saddened by the loss of Al Porterfield. His face lit up whenever I saw him- whether it be in the ambulance where we worked together, at a tractor pull, just sitting in a bar or chatting on his front porch. He always had time for anybody, but particularly his children and grandchildren. Al would do anything for you and I can’t imagine a better friend. To Gary and Wendy, two of my favourite students, I share your grief.

Condolence from Ken Graham (former volunteer paramedic with Bolton Ambulance) on January 2nd, 2011 2:11 pm

I have never met a nicer guy than Al Porterfield. He always met me with a smile and twinkle in his eye. He and his late wife Ruth were a mainstay of the Bolton Volunteer Ambulance Service for 15 years.
I have enjoyed working with Al on the ambulance, watching him excel in tractor pull, or just chat with him in retirement at his home or in a restaurant. My sympathy goes out to Gary and Wendy, two of my favourite students, who Al was so proud of along with his grandchildren.

Condolence from Wayne & Joan Robinson on January 3rd, 2011 11:15 pm

Wendy, Gary & Family,

We send our sincere condolences in the loss of your Father, Al, who was a very dear friend of ours.

Al treated us more like family than neighbours with daily phone calls and our many outings to various places including trips to the U.S.A. for tractor pulling parts.

We have already missed his company during the last few months with his illness, however with his passing we know that he has gone to a much better place free of pain and suffering.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you in has passing and the memories of Al will be with us forever.

Condolence from Teri McDonald and Joe Soares on January 4th, 2011 4:58 pm

Dear Wendy, Gary and family.

What I will remember about Al is his strength, and happy outlook on life. Although he faced daily struggles with his health. I never heard him complain or see him down over it. There was always a new project to keep him occupied. Whether it was doing a home renovation or buying a new vehicle. I will forever remember his zest for life and oh, how he loved to tease. William Street will not be the same without our neighbour and for so many of us a dear friend. We will miss him very much.

Joe and I share comfort in knowing he is no longer suffering. We send you thoughts of peace and courage.

Condolence from Lorrie Wren ( nee Attridge ) on January 5th, 2011 2:34 pm

Condolence from Al Thomson (former Bolton Ambulance Volunteer) on January 5th, 2011 4:17 pm

I just saw the notice of your father’s passing. I wish to offer my condolences on your loss. I remember Al as I was starting out as a volunteer with the ambulance service almost 25 years ago. Al was always very caring, understanding and compassionate. I learned how to relate to patients by watching Al as he connected with them and it was how he carried himself that I respected most. I am still in the ambulance business today and wish there were more people like Al around to learn from. He will be sorely missed.

Condolence from Rob Harakal on January 5th, 2011 4:48 pm

Gary and Wendy, Please accept our condoloences on your loss.
