Cameron Alex Web

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alex Cameron at Dufferin Oaks Long Term Care in Shelburne on Wednesday, February 28, 2018, surrounded by his family and the loving staff members of Dufferin Oaks. Our gentle giant, who always wore a smile on his face and carried humour in his heart which he spread with joy, has left us. Alzheimer’s may have taken his memories and caused him great confusion, but it never took away his love for his family, including the PSWs and nurses at Dufferin Oaks who have taken such good care of him during his final years. Our memories of him will never fade as we remember him playing road hockey with the kids, walking his beloved dog Tawnie around Caledon East, and riding his bike when he had exhausted Tawnie, and always there to lend a helping hand be it for family, friends or neighbours.

He was the son of the late Michael and Mary (Kennedy) Cameron. Survived by his wife of 42 years, Esther (Ann) Cameron; his daughters Maureen Smith and Kathleen Heaney; his son-in-law Wayne Smith; his grandsons Brendan Smith, Alan Michaud and David Michaud; his great-grandchildren Haley Hines, Emily Michaud and Noah Michaud; his sister Isabel Campbell; his brothers Bill Cameron, Archie (Vonda) Cameron, Gerard (Sophie) Cameron, and Pat Cameron; his sister-in-law Catherine Cameron, and brother-in-law Cletus Touesnard. Predeceased by his brother Martin Cameron; sister, Mary Touesnard; brother-in-law Angus Campbell; sister-in-law Wilma Cameron; and sister-in-law Obbie Cameron.

Cremation has taken place. Arrangements by Egan Funeral Home, Bolton (905-857-2213). If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Peel, 60 Briarwood Avenue, Mississauga L5G 3N6.

Hello Ann and family
I am so sad to hear of Uncle Alex’s passing. We just lost Mary and now Alex. My son, Douglas, and I visited him the summer before last and he was so happy to hear some good old Cape Breton fiddle tunes from Douglas and stories from home; he even had a few himself! I was so glad that he remembered me and Mom and Dad. I remember that as a kid, Alec would come home from Toronto with a Ford Mustang convertible in which he was so happy to give us kids a ride to the beach. He was a good man and the obituary did him that honour. I’m glad that my last memories of him are those of him smiling and tapping his toes to the fiddle music. God bless him and your family.

Uncle Alex was on-of-a-kind. I have many, many fond memories of him, mostly around trips to Cape Breton with him. One particular summer when I was 12 or so, we would do the after dinner dishes together and then head out to the barn-yard where we would play catch, more accurately, he would fire baseballs with all his might and I would catch then with my back to the barn door. I would never let him know that my palm was stinging but man, he could fire a baseball. Uncle Alex was the first adult to treat me as an equal and I always appreciated him for that. He may be gone from this earth but my fond memories of him will last. My condolences to Ann and family, a wonderful man has passed on.
